Review: Hubble Contact Lenses

I’m a long-time contact-lens wearer. Been wearing since I was 15 or so. I started with the soft contact lenses that you cleaned nightly and soaked weekly. I loved moving to the daily lenses that I could just throw away after one use.

I hated the cost though. My annual contact lens bill is $520, paid quarterly as I order a new batch. I’m luck to have health insurance that covers about a quarter of it; I’m the hook for the rest of it. So when I heard about Hubble Contacts, I gave it a try. And I liked them. Read on for why.Hubble mails you a month’s supply of contact lenses and says they’re cheaper than what you’ll get from the eye doc but with the same quality. Obviously, your mileage may vary, but I found their claims to be true.

Hubble costs me $33 a month, so I’ll save a little over $100 annually. Pretty good.

But how do the contacts compare to my Acuvue Moist? Overall, I haven’t noticed major differences. My eyes don’t feel drier at the end of the day or after a nap.

The Hubble contacts feel a little thicker in my hand, but I don’t notice that in my eyes. The only drawback so far is that it’s a little harder to tell when a Hubble contact is inside out compared with the Acuvues. The Acuvues have “123” printed on them so you can easily spot an inside-out contact. The lack of a bowl shape is a little less apparent with Hubble. It’s hard to explain, but if you wear contact lenses, you know what I’m talking about. In any case, it’s a minor inconvenience as I can tell an inside-out lens the second it’s sitting on my eye.

The ordering process was easy. I entered my prescription information and my eye doctor’s info (you choose from a pretty extensive list of participating docs). Hubble contacted the doctor to verify the prescription and boom – my free trial boxes were on their way.

You provide payment info when ordering the trials so Hubble can roll you onto its subscription plan. Some people don’t like doing this. I don’t really care – it looked easy enough to cancel before the subscription kicked in and I’m going to keep up with it. They’ll mail me a new supply every month.

Bottom line: I like these. They’re less expensive and easy to order. Quality is equivalent to Acuvue.
